Measurement

This week Room 9 have been discovering how we can measure length.
On Monday we used our oral language to have a whole class discussion about what we thought measurement was. We listened and learner from each other which helped us to build up our ideas and thoughts:

We decided we could measure lengths of objects with other everyday objects. We went and measured around the school using paintbrushes.

The next day we began designing our own measuring tools. These had numbers on them so objects could be compared. Some looked like rulers and measuring tapes. We thought that it would be easier if we made them out of harder material next time.

Today we learned about cm and mm and how to use our rulers to measure around the classroom. We could measure in centimetres or millimetres separately or convert from one to the other using our place value knowledge.
