Reading stamina in Ruma Iwa

Passing people - Humans of Room Nine (HORN)

Papatuanuku

We were looking at the caterpillar. It turned into a butterfly. There were 3 caterpillars one afternoon and the next morning we couldn't find the baby one. One of them crawled away as well. Tawhiti found it outside the window!

Garden graphs

We were preparing to make a tally about the vegetables in the garden.

We went to the garden and we looked at all the vegetables to see how many of each there were. Tayla found 9 strawberries. James W found 71 tomatoes. Micah found 27 beans. Tawhiti found 2 courgettes. Raedence found 17 corn cobs. Anab found 17 tomatoes. Maria found 24 strawberries.

This is when we were walking in the garden, hunting and tallying.

We are eating our vegetables - YUM YUM!

We turned our tallies into graphs.

We had to count up how many of each vegetable we had, then we had to rule an x and y axis, and label them. We had to rule a line from the right number to show which had the most and the least in the garden.

Sketching - Passing People

John Badcock is an artist who has sketched and painted 100 portraits of people in 100 days. We are using him to inspire us to improve our sketching. Each day we will do some more practice until we are ready to sketch our whole photo.

Waiata in Ruma Iwa

Every morning in Ruma Iwa we welcome the day with waiata. They make us feel happy, get us moving with a little kanikani and get us ready for learning.

Here are some we are learning at the moment:

What is happening here?

Our class caterpillars have had a busy week:
On Tuesday their was one large one and two small ones.
By Wednesday morning we had 3 very hungry caterpillars and some very empty swan plants.
On Thursday morning one caterpillar had curled up and darkened...

By Friday afternoon, just before 3pm, something exciting was happening. Can you see what we did?
