Alison Shanks came in to talk to us about following our dreams. She shared how she had achieved her dream of being the best in the world at something. Alison thought she REALLY wanted to be a Silver Fern player, but she never got to play much on the courts when she was in A grade. When the coach told her she had to go down to the B grade, she changed her goal and began riding her bike. Alison has since won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in individual pursuit.
When she was racing in France, the bystanders were calling Ali, Ali, Ali! so she thought they were cheering for her. But it really means Go! Go! Go!
Alison's bike is made of carbon fibre so it is really lightweight. There are no brakes!!! So she has to keep going around the track until she slows down enough to stop.
She can go 60km an hour, so it must hurt a lot if she falls off. Alison's shoes are clipped on to the pedals.
Here is one of our students wearing Alison's racing suit and gold medal!
That is so cool we got to meet Alison Shanks, a world champion

Wow I would love to have a gold medal because it would make me feel really special. I would also be really pleased if I had a bike like that.
