Friday 24th April - Peace Walk

The whole school walked to Memorial Park with their buddies.  We saw crosses for some of the soldiers and we did a sketch of the cenotaph.
The red of the poppy represents the blood of the soldiers that have fallen.  The black represents the grief of all of those left behind. The poppies were growing in Flanders Field from the bodies that were left.

On Wednesday the 25th March the Kauri team all travelled by bus to Matangi School for our annual swimming sports.

Sport time with Erin

This morning (Monday 23rd March) we had co-operative games with Erin from project energise.

At the start we had to work together to get a hoop over each person in the group and back to the start without letting go and without using your fingers.

 

 

We then had to play a game which involved lots of team work and learnt the hard way that cheating and not working together is not much fun.  Next time we hope to be able to be more honest so that we can enjoy ourselves even more :)

Two weeks ago Room 9 ran the Kauri Assembly.

Reydon and Neveah were our two presenters and Neveah started us off with her Mihi:

Building a Bridge

At the start of the term we were learning about working together.  We had to work as a group with some interesting materials (post it notes, blutack, paper clips and bulldog clips) to build a bridge.  The bridge had to cross the river (paper) and hold itself up.
This was both challenging and rewarding (at the end) and also interesting to see how well we worked together.  

Swimming

Room 9 is really enjoying swimming.  We do loads of swim training and then sometimes we get to explore with the fun equipment.  There is no time to be cold when we are this busy learning and exploring in the water!!!
